IOE at the UN General Assembly

The 78th session of the UN General Assembly opens today with the High-Level General Debate to commence on Tuesday, 19 September 2023.

This year’s theme of the UN General Assembly’s 78th session (UNGA 78) is Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress and Sustainability for All. Dennis Francis, Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the UN, was elected to serve as President of this session. 

IOE will be involved in numerous sessions highlighting the role of employers in achieving the 2030 agenda, including during the high-level week. Here is an overview of those activities. 

SDG Action Weekend: 16-17 September. During this weekend, IOE will: 

  • Participate in the Private Sector event on SMEs 
  • Co-sponsor with ITU the SDG Digital Day 
  • Co-sponsor with various organisations including UNCDF a session on Blended Financing for SMEs in vulnerable societies 

High-level week: IOE Secretary-General Roberto Suárez Santos will take part in the Private Sector Forum, the Global Compact’s Leaders’ Summit. He will also participate in some side events organised by the International Labour Organization (ILO) on the Global Accelerator for Jobs and Social Protection for a Just Transition and EPIC. Some of these events will be available to view on UNTV.
