Business at the 14th GFMD
Successful employers’ contribution and participation in the 14th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) Summit under France’s chairmanship.
More than a thousand delegates, including Governments from 150 countries, civil society organisations, and 60 employers representatives attended the GFMD Summit in Geneva, from 23-25 January, to exchange on best practices on migration governance.
The employers advocated for:
- Migration pathways to bring talent in a safe way where needed to fill skills shortages
- Legal frameworks for responsible recruitment
- Harmonisation of skills recognition system, potentially leveraging AI
- Better use of technology and outreach to tech start-ups, as a game changer
- A public narrative based on facts and economic impacts, rather than perceptions
Next steps:
With more than 70 countries holding elections in 2024, migration will feature high on the agenda. We encourage IOE members to engage with their governments to discuss migration policies that enable to fill skills shortage, contributing thereby to economic growth and sustainable development.
As Colombia has now taken over the chairmanship of the GFMD, IOE will work on the business contribution towards the annual GFMD cycle.
