B20: Roundup of IOE participation

Highlights of IOE’s key role in B20 Indonesia.

This year’s B20 was a critical success, with over 3,000 business and government leaders from 69 countries present at the two-day Summit. The President of the International Organisation of Employers (IOE), Michele Parmelee, took part in several keynote panels and jointly launched with B20 Indonesian representative one of the legacy projects, One Global Women Empowerment (OGWE).

Ahead of the two-day gathering, IOE and Deloitte hosted a key event, the Business Impact Summit, bringing together business leaders and senior representatives from the G20, L20 and multilateral institutions to discuss the pressures faced by today’s labour markets. Discussions focused on what businesses are or should be doing to mitigate wage and inflationary pressures; and why just transition matters to business and its response to the climate crisis.

IOE and Deloitte also launched during the recent G20 meetings a major report on women empowerment in those countries. It shows that while progress is happening, the G20 nations are still lagging significantly in meeting their commitments to women’s empowerment. The report framed its research around three questions: How has the labour market recovered post the pandemic, especially amongst women? How are G20 nations performing in the implementation of their commitments with respect to women’s empowerment? What is the path forward?

In addition, IOE became the secretariat for the legacy initiative OGWE. This project is generating significant interest among the corporate community. IOE, through OGWE, will design, drive and deliver action for women’s empowerment, equal economic opportunity, female employment and entrepreneurship.

IOE looks forward to continuing its leadership role at B20 India on the Employment and Future of Work Task Force. Dates for the B20 India will be communicated as soon as the organisers announce them.
