Annual review of ILO 1998 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work

Call for employer inputs to the annual review process by 31 October 2022.

The 1998 ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work provides that all Member States have an obligation to respect, promote and realize in good faith the principles concerning the fundamental rights which are the subject of those Conventions, regardless of whether they have ratified it or not, based on the ILO membership.

The new ILO online reporting tool allows all Members States to submit their reports on how they are promoting those fundamental principles and/or any challenges they are facing through e-questionnaire, which are circulated to the social partners for comments.

It is important for employers to engage in this annual review process in order to provide an accurate reflection of how these fundamental principles and rights at work are respected and promoted at the national level. Employer organisations can comment on their Government’s report or provide further information on the national situation through the online reporting tool. Please note that this years’ questionnaire does not cover the two newly recognised fundamental Conventions by the 2022 ILC Resolution on the inclusion of a safe and healthy working environment in the framework of the fundamental principles and rights, namely the Occupational Safety and Health Convention 1981 (No. 155) and the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention 2006 (No. 187). These two Conventions will be covered in the annual review next year once the Governing Body has approved the questionnaire.
