The International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) will take place from 16-20 May 2022 in New York. As you may remember from our previous communications, the 2022 IMRF is the first time this intergovernmental global platform meets to evaluate progress on the implementation of all aspects of the Global Compact, including as it relates to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and with the participation of all relevant stakeholders. The IMRF is set to take place every four years.
During the 2022 IMRF, IOE is organising and participating in a series of major events. Below is a list of those events, dates and times, as well as whether they are in person or online only or hybrid.
16 May: 15:00 - 18:00(EST): IOE-Oracle Business Flagship Event
The event will take place at the University Club of New York. Members are invited to register HERE to join online. Complete agenda available in the "Resources" section.
The event brings together experts with employer and migration specialists. Together they will assess the linkages between business priorities on skills mobility, responsible cross-border recruitment, and skills recognition with three of the 23 objectives of the GCM. Three start-ups, the winner from the IOE-Oracle Hackathon and two other technology based start-ups will offer insight into potential ways to use technology to assist fair labour migration.
IOE and the Business Advisory Group on Migration will also jointly launch four important publications presenting the private sector’s views on migration and the impact of the Global Compact, available in the "Resources" section.
- IOE Global paper: Business perspectives on migration – “What does the successful implementation of the Global Compact for migration mean for the private sector?”
- Asian Employers’ position on migration
- African Employers’ position on migration
- Study of regulatory frameworks that promote and ensure responsible recruitment of foreign workers in South-East Asia
17 May: 13:15 - 14:30(EST): IMRF Side Event
This event will take place in-person only at the UN HQ General Assembly Building, Room 8. Complete agenda available in the "Resources" section.
This side event of the IMRF will feature three practical, innovative and scalable technological solutions to facilitate skills management.
The highlight of the event is the bringing together of three start-ups with the right solutions to show that technology can ease the management of labour migration governance, in particular the skills recognitions. Governments and other stakeholders are invited to listen to the dynamic pitches of the three start-ups, raise questions and participate in a follow-up conversation.
- IOE Secretary-General Roberto Suárez Santos will take part in the IMRF Round Table I from 10:00 – 13:00 (EST). The event will be live streamed on UN web TV (https://media.un.org/en/webtv)
The panellists will examine the following topics: legal pathways for migration, fair recruitment, and skills recognition.
