Los emprendedores del comercio digital están transformando el mercado de la ropa de segunda mano en el Reino Unido y Nigeria

IOE and the University of Sussex have published a joint report on the impact of digital retail platforms on the sale of second-hand clothing in Nigeria and the UK.

What are the opportunities and barriers of digital retail platforms for young entrepreneurs as a sustainable and formal income stream in the UK and Nigeria? Are these platforms a potential path for reducing high youth unemployment?

These are some of the issues examined in a new joint report from the International Organisation of Employers and the University of Sussex entitled: Digital entrepreneurship on retail platforms: A way to formalise employment for young people in Nigeria and the UK.

The report details the experiences of young second-hand clothing sellers using digital retail platforms either instead of or in combination with traditional markets. Survey results from the young sellers are featured with explanations of the time and resources required, the necessary skills to either expand or develop a business, and the platforms which work the best for reaching different markets and increasing sales.

The report offers data analysis, insightful quotes, and forward-looking policy recommendations. In addition, it is an important contribution to the ongoing policy and regulatory debates on how digital technology can move people working in the informal economy into formal employment and entrepreneurship.
