Sad news for the business and human rights community

IOE was sad to learn that the distinguished human rights leader John Ruggie passed away.

John Ruggie was a pioneer in the business and human rights field. The global business community considered him to be a man whose wisdom and professionalism contributed in a fundamental way to building and preserving consensus on the business and human rights agenda.

As author of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, he set the precedent. The Principles are now the standard both in the business world and the human rights arena. In fact, we know that companies across the globe apply the UNGPs to their work, making every effort to adhere to the spirit and text.

Our thoughts are with his family, and we would like to express our deepest sympathies to them. 

IOE will continue to promote the UNGPs as the authoritative framework for business and human rights. We are deeply committed to ensuring John’s legacy endures for many years to come.
