Last call to register for ILO Fifth Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour

Register by 14 April to the ILO Fifth Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour which will take place 15 -20 May 2022 in Durban, South Africa.

The ILO Fifth Global Conference on Elimination of Child Labour is a platform bringing together representatives from governments, trade unions, the private sector, civil society regional and international organizations, think tanks, academia, youth and children, to share their experiences, good practices to address child labour. This conference is taking place three years ahead of the 2025 deadline set by Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 8.7to end child labour in all its forms.

Due to the ongoing pandemic situation, the Conference will be held in hybrid format, with online participation as well as limited in-person participation at the Durban International Convention Centre in South Africa.

The programme includes high level forums, thematic panel discussions and side events. IOE along with ILO Global Business Network on Forced Labour and Consumer Goods Forum will be co-organising a side event on how to address forced labour and child labour. In addition, IOE and Ardea International are collaborating another side event on business due diligence to eliminate child labour in supply chains.

The Conference will adopt on the last day an action-oriented document called the “Durban Call to Action”, which aims to mobilize a wide range of stakeholders to increase their efforts and accelerate progress against child labour and forced labour. Tripartite consultations have begun already and will be finalised by the drafting group during the conference.   

We encourage all members, especially those from Alliance 8.7 pathfinder countries, to register and participate this important global conference, which is not to be missed. Members from least developed countries are eligible to apply for ILO funding to attend this event in person.
