2023 International Migrants Day - Multi-Stakeholders Policy Dialogue: How to Change Migration Narratives in Political Debate and Policy-Making

Location

OSCE Congress Centre, Vienna, Austria

Organised by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)

In the OSCE region, migration features prominently in public and political debates at the international, national, and local level, across countries of origin, transit and destination. Institutional actors have dedicated specific efforts to enhance balanced communication on migration. Despite these efforts, migration features in most media and public debates in terms that are often sensationalized and framed negatively, leading to controversy and divisions. This event aims to advocate a more proactive role of the policy community in steering the public conversation towards economic development and labor market related considerations, remarking the importance of evidence-based arguments to explain the beneficial outcomes that migration generates in receiving and sending countries. To this end, it convenes policymakers and practitioners active in the field of international migration governance, experts of migrant labour rights, representatives of the private sector, academics working on migration narratives.

The event is open to the delegations of the OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation, as well as experts, practitioners, policymakers, economic and social partners, civil society actors and academia, active in the field of migration governance.
