Latest Developments

The IOE, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and UN Development Coordination Office (DCO) launched a joint publication, Playbook: Building Momentum in the Decade of Action through Collaboration between Employers and UN Resident Coordination at the 2021 UN Partnership Forum. The Playbook aims to strengthen dialogue and collaboration between Resident Coordinators (RCs) and employer organisations with the purpose of working together to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • 25 May 9:00 to 10:30 - Business & Industry Major Group Webinar – “Maximizing the engagement and value of private sector as a partner in sustainable development”

The webinar will feature guest speakers from the UN DESA Partnership Accelerator and the Partnering Initiative to discuss the value of partnerships for business and address the challenges and incentives in partnering. This event will be open to all IOE Members (all are welcome to sign up to join the B&I Major Group).

  • 29 June at 09:00-10:30 CET/14:00-15:30 ICT - Asia-Pacific Regional Dialogue – “Unleashing the potential of partnerships” 

The IOE, KAS, and UN DCO collaboration continues its programme of dialogues and deep dives with a regionally focused discussion on how the UN and private sector in Asia can work together to address sustainable development setbacks and stimulate a faster economic and social recovery.

This will be a closed session that brings together high-level UN representatives with employers and will only be open to IOE Members in the Asia-Pacific region.

  • UN Global Compact Leaders Summit: 2021 

15 June – 16 June – Virtual event featuring business leaders, government officials, civil society leaders, academia and more. As an IOE Member, you are entitled to attend the summit for free as a ‘UN Global Compact Participant’. Info and registration

  • 2021 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)

The 2021 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be taking place 6 July to 16 July. The HLPF is an important follow-up and review mechanism of the 2030 Agenda, hosting Ministers, as well as Heads of State/Government every four years. The Forum adopts an intergovernmental negotiated political declaration and provides a platform for the Member States’ presentation of their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs).

The official 2021 HLPF Draft Programme is now available for download.

Spotlight: UN and Employers coming together  

The Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) recently met virtually with the Kenya UN Resident Coordinator to discuss possible areas for collaboration on issues such as youth skills development, SDGs, and strengthening tripartite arrangement.

Share your unique perspective with the UN – ‘We the Peoples’

IOE Members are invited to participate in a digital consultation called ‘We the Peoples’ to generate bold and actionable proposals to strengthen international cooperation for the UN Secretary-General.
