End of Year Greetings from IOE

IOE Secretary-General and the entire Secretariat share some closing thoughts for 2023 and offer their best wishes for the new year.

As we approach the end of this year, marked again by rising geopolitical tensions and cascading challenges, the power of collaboration has emerged as a critical force for bringing about profound positive change.

The dynamics of partnering with the private sector whether in the realms of human rights, climate change, or poverty alleviation shifted in 2023 from being a controversial matter to a nuanced exploration of "how" and "to what extent." Governments and international organisations recognise the pivotal role that enterprises play, underscoring the need for collaboration in achieving shared goals.

As the private sector strives to meet expectations on contributions to global goals, it is crucial to also focus on addressing shortcomings in regulatory frameworks and institutional support that hinder business growth, presenting significant challenges.

In this evolving landscape, business and employers’ organisations took on an increasingly critical role in 2023. IOE members increased efforts to showcase the positive impact of business on society, contribute to the attainment of global goals and advocate for an economic environment that promotes job creation and growth.

At the International Organisation of Employers (IOE), we were steadfast in our support to promote and protect our members’ autonomy and independence, as well as developing their capacities to better serve their members. We enhanced our global visibility and engagement with members, operating with transparency and a clear voice in defense of our values and principles. We've expanded our partnerships, and this momentum will continue into the upcoming year.

As we stand on the brink of a new year, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of our members for their unwavering commitment and dedication to our joint work.
