IOE encourages members located in countries which will present their VNRs to actively engage in the preparation process to bring the business voice to the UN table.

Voluntary national reviews (VNRs) take place each year in July during the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York. The VNRs allow countries to share the progress and challenges in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to share lessons learned.

The VNR preparation process takes several months and therefore, will be starting soon. It is led by Governments, with the support of the United Nations, and includes consultations with diverse stakeholders. Employer organisations should be part of the process

Out of the 46 countries that have signed up to present their VNRs in 2022, 32 are those where IOE Members have a presence (list below).

The time to become an active stakeholder in the preparation process is now. We encourage you to seek out the VNR focal points in your country, which you can find on your country’s profile by scrolling down and selecting ‘2022’ here.

Inclusive participation of the private sector in the VNR preparation process is crucial to ensure that the business perspective is part of the development, and implementation of the process. Business needs to build bridges with national governments, UN Resident Coordinators, and the UN System in general, through a practical and solutions-oriented dialogue. We are encouraging governments and the UN to have employers participate in the preparation and to be part of the delegation presenting the VNR.
