On 2 February 2022, the 2022 ECOSOC Partnership Forum was held under the theme “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. The Forum gathered governments and other stakeholders to debate new ideas and solutions for an SDG-led recovery from COVID-19. It also aimed at further inspiring the work of ECOSOC and the High-Level Political Forum on sustainable development (HLPF).

With the ultimate goal to advocate for multi-stakeholders’ partnerships and provide concrete and practical examples of collaboration with the private sector that can enhance recovery and reaching the SDGs, IOE led the private sector participation in this important Forum through the following events:

  • IOE side event – Changing the landscape by breaking down silos: Cross-cutting business partnerships, organised in partnership with the ILO and UNCTAD.

This session aimed at showcasing private sector ongoing work focused on strengthening dialogue between national employers and UN Resident Coordinators in various countries to enhance collaboration and knowledge sharing. Moreover, as a key player in the 5th upcoming UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), IOE shared preliminary results of the analysis and recommendations for action in 26 LDC countries, which are being prepared in collaboration with national employer organisations in LDCs.

  • IOE Spotlight session – Building back better from the bottom up: collaboration with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises for SDG Implementation.

This session focused on the role of MSMEs as the backbone to economies and how their needs could be addressed to support a sustainable recovery from COVID-19 and accelerate SDG implementation. Drawing on experiences and lessons from IOE “Business Heroes” campaign and diverse participants from different sectors and countries, it showcased the importance of working together and providing targeted support to MSMEs during the COVID-19 recovery.

More details about the sessions and the tentative agendas can be found in the “Resources” section.

IOE has been and will continue to engage in dialogues, such as the Partnership Forum, and believes real change can be achieved together by going beyond high-level speeches, creating an open and practical dialogue focused on work on the ground and accelerating the best practices with a record of success. Join us as we bring the voice of business to this and other key platforms for collaboration!
