IOE @ the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5)

05. - 09.03.2023.

Location

Doha, Qatar

Presidents of IOE members in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) will bring the voice of business to the LDC5 Conference in Qatar from 5-9 March 2023 at the level of Heads of State and Government.

Presidents of IOE members in LDCs* will join this important gathering in Doha from 5-9 March 2023 as part of the employer delegation and contribute to shaping the debate for business development in LDCs. This Conference takes place every ten years and is a once-in-a-decade opportunity to accelerate sustainable development and to tap the full potential of LDCs.

The planned agenda for LDC5 for employers includes a Ministerial Dinner, a meeting with António Guterres and Heads of UN Agencies, an employer side event and much more!

At the LDC5 Conference, the international community is expected to:

  • Build the plans and partnerships to deliver on the promise and ambition of the Doha Programme of Action  for the next ten years.
  • Mobilise additional international support in favour of LDCs and overcome structural challenges, eradicate poverty, and achieve internationally agreed development goals.

Happening alongside the Conference, is a 3-day Private Sector Forum (5-7 March 2023) that will promote private-sector participation and investment in LDCs to support their sustainable development and where employer perspectives from LDCs will be particularly valuable.

IOE is finalising a comprehensive review of the business environment in each LDC country with an IOE member organisation, with concrete recommendations that will become specific action. Member inputs will contribute to shaping this critical debate and identifying necessary steps to unblock investments, create conducive environments for entrepreneurship and job creation, strengthen LDCs’ access to global trade pathways, and accelerate action to address flaws in governance systems. This will be presented to Heads of State at LDC5.
