Aim of the meeting

With over 250 million women entrepreneurs as of 2021, you might think there is no longer a gender gap in business ownership. Unfortunately, the gap remains wide, particularly in low-income countries. Too many women entrepreneurs today are still struggling to overcome challenges their male counterparts never encounter. Yet despite the obstacles, the good news is that more and more women are opening their own business and overcoming the barriers to success.

What are the reasons behind the gap in female entrepreneurship and what type of solutions can be put in place to address them? Building on the previous successful IOE PWG webinar that addressed the empowerment of women leaders in the private sector and the creation of  inclusive cultures in companies, the aim of this digital event is to exchange on the barriers and challenges to women entrepreneurship and identify concrete ways to overcome them.

This IOE digital event will address some pertinent questions in efforts to unpack this issue further and find ways to move forward:

  1. How can policymakers help promote an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs to grow and thrive?
  2. What strategy or policy best practices can participants share that encourage women to start their own business?
  3. What advice can experienced women entrepreneurs offer to those women just starting out?
