Aim of the meeting

The Regional Programme Political Dialogue and Regional Intergration in the Southern Mediterranean of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS PolDiMed) and the Union of Mediterranean Business Confederations (BUSINESSMED) are organising an experts' conference on the theme "Euro-Mediterranean Transport and Logistics: A Catalyst for Regional Cooperation in the aftermath of the global economic crisis".

The event will bring together around 30 leading experts, representatives of key international organisations, UN agencies, as well as the national and regional private sector to hold an in-depth discussion on the prospects of transport and logistics in the Mediterranean as a driver for regional cooperation in a post-crisis context.

Building on the policy recommendations jointly developed in the framework of the previous expert meetings, the conference aims to

  • Highlight the challenges and future perspectives of the Euro-Mediterranean transport and logistics system in light of the current economic and geopolitical situation;
  • Share best practices and success stories on effective EU-Mediterranean-South cooperation, with a focus on trade infrastructure and logistics;
  • Advise on operational policies to promote and develop the transport and logistics sector in the Euro-Mediterranean region, as a means to boost regional trade and build back better.

IOE Role

Mr Amadou Sako, IOE Adviser and Project Officer for Africa, will represent the employers and will be speaking about "Potentials of Regional Value Chains between Europe and the Southern Mediterranean from a Private Sector Perspective".
