IOE President Michele Parmelee & IOE Vice-President to the ILO Renate Hornung-Draus opened the event calling on the over 100 participants to urge their governments to bring business to the policy table on skills development. Business wants to be part of creating solutions to solving the skills crisis.

Dr. Nirav Mandir from the B20 Taskforce on Future of Work and Julia Stiller from Deloitte highlighted the impact of B20 recommendations on the world of work by influencing outcomes of G20 negotiations.

The lead panel featured experts from across the employment and world of work policy landscape. They focused on what needs to happen to address the skills gaps and promote effective and balanced skills governance. The main messages from this exceptional panel included calling on businesses to make greater efforts to tap untapped talent from marginalized populations, expand apprenticeships and end the stigma attached to them, and invest in skilling their workforce to increase productivity.

On the governance side, there was widespread agreement among the panelists that governments need to link policy development on skills and education closer together.

The findings of the IOE- Deloitte G20 Monitoring Report were also highlighted with detailed data analysis on the enduring impact of the pandemic on global economies and an assessment of the integration of B20 Recommendations on G20 Declarations and national policy development (find the report here).

Shinta Kamdani closed the event expressing the importance of the policy ideas that came out of the dialogue. She also took the opportunity to promote the B20 Indonesia initiative on One Global Women Empowerment (OGWE) and the vital responsibility of B20 leaders to promote this initiative and women empowerment globally.
