IOE members from Small Island Developing States are invited to save the date for the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4), which will be held in Antigua and Barbuda from 27 - 30 May 2024 under the theme "Charting the Course Toward Resilient Prosperity".

This UN Conference takes place every ten years and will agree on bold new Programme of Action for SIDS, with concrete, measurable, targets to support SIDS to achieve their sustainable development objectives over the next ten years. The outcome will build on the SAMOA Pathway (2014)Mauritius Strategy (2004); and Barbados Programme of Action (1994).

SIDS have been recognised by the international community as requiring special attention, due to their unique vulnerabilities, including small size, geographically remoteness, narrow resource and export base and exposure to exogenous economic, social and environmental shocks. The Conference will bring together world leaders from SIDS and their partners, civil society, the private sector, academia, youth, and other stakeholders to develop practical and impactful solutions to address SIDS-specific challenges. This event is organised from UN New York led by the department of Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing (UN-OHRLLS).

The side event “Fostering Resilient Economies in SIDS: Enhancing the Role of the Private Sector in Unleashing Job Potential” will focus on:

  • establishing conducive environments and effective policies for job creation, economic resilience, and entrepreneurship.
  • securing financing and investment for SMEs.
  • strengthening skills development through public-private partnerships.

This event aims to highlight priorities for sustainable business growth and job creation in SIDS. The International Organisation of Employers is committed to supporting business engagement in fulfilling agreed commitments within the new SIDS agenda.
