IOE celebrates International Women's Day 2018

Dear Members and Partners,

To mark this year's International Women's Day, the IOE is proud to share two publications:

  • An IOE-ILO ACT/EMP Compilation of good practices on women's economic empowerment
  • Key takeways from the compilation, available in English, French and Spanish

The IOE in partnership with the ILO Bureau for Employers’ Activities (ACT/EMP), conducted a survey of employers’ organisations and IOE partner companies in November and December 2017 with the aim of better understanding their experiences in promoting women’s economic empowerment as an enabler for growth and building a knowledge base of good practices of representative employers and companies from around the world. The seventeen responses to the survey received, from a range of different geographical regions, have been compiled to provide a useful insight into the trends and representation of women in these organisations and businesses.

The full version of the document is currently available in English (with a French and Spanish version to follow at a later date) and the summary, which outlines the key takeways from the survey, is available in all three languages. Please click on the links in the side panel to access the documents.

Further to this publication, we would like to inform our members that the IOE will participate in two events to celebrate International Women's Day:

ILO's Celebrations of International Womens Day - Rural women in the world of work: Bridging the gender gaps

The event will celebrate the significant contributions of rural women at work across the globe, including indigenous women, and highlight actions needed to achieve greater gender equality and empowerment. The interactive panel discussion will serve as a platform for collective reflection addressing challenges and opportunities in supporting the role of rural women as agents of change. The tripartite panel will include the ILO Director-General, Mr. Guy Ryder. Mr Tarek Tawfik has been invited to represent the Federation of Egyptian Industry (FEI).

IOE Contributes to Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Discussions

This year's CSW activities hosted at the United Nations Headquarter in New York will take place on 16 March 2018 and will focus on “Gender Equality at the Heart of Decent Work for Rural Women”.  Ms Ronnie Goldberg will represent the IOE at a high-level interactive dialogue to reflect on strategies and actions needed to address the challenges that rural women face in the world of work.

We wish you a successful International Women's Day.

 Yours sincerely,

Linda Kromjong

Secretary-General
