Important events around International Women's Day 2017

 

To mark the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8 March 2017, the IOE will participate in a number of events over the coming two weeks. IOE members are invited to join in on some of these events.

 

The ILO's Celebrations of International Women’s Day

  1. The ILO together with Gallup will host a major event in Washington DC to launch a joint report, Towards a better future for women and men : Voice of women and men. The event hosted at Gallup Headquarters on 8 March will feature a panel discussion with guests including the ILO Director General, the CEO of Gallup, Jim Clifton, along with actor, producer and activist, Eva Longoria, Princeton Professor Emeritus in Economic Sciences and 2015 Nobel laureate, Sir Angus Deaton, and Founder, Chairperson and CEO of Care.com, Sheila Lirio Marcelo.

IOE's IWD celebrations with International Geneva Gender Champions

 

The IOE Secretary General, Ms Linda Kromjong, will participate in a roundtable discussion on gender and sport entitled "International organsations and sports federations : a winning partnership for gender equality" at 14:30-16:00 Geneva time in Room XIX, Building E of the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The aim of the roundtable is to highlight concrete examples of projects and impactful policies showing how international organisations are using sports to promote the rights of women and girls and to empower them.

 

IOE Members invited to shape IOE guidance materials on diversity 

  1. The IOE will share two draft publications on 8 March on Optimising the Potential of Female Talent and Understanding and Addressing Violence at Work.
  2. IOE members are invited to contribute to finalising these publications by providing written comments on both drafts.

 

IOE Contributes to Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Discussions

 

This year's CSW activities hosted at the United Nations Headquarters in New York will involve IOE members. Ms Linda Kromjong will be an employer Champion, as part of the UN Women Global Equal Pay Platform of Champions which will launch the Platform of Champions. Ms Ronnie Goldberg will represent the IOE on 14 March 2017 at a high-level interactive dialogue among Ministers on building alliances to promote women's economic empowerment in the changing world of work.
