Mohirdev wins the 4th IOE-Seedstars Migration Challenge

Ten finalists showcased their innovations in Geneva during the 14th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) Summit, with Mohirdev claiming the coveted award.

Since 2019, IOE and Seedstars have collaborated to present the Migration Challenge competition recognising leading tech-driven start-ups offering products that address migration issues in response to labour market needs. In this edition, special attention was given to tech start-ups working on climate-related solutions spanning different sectors of the migration debate, focusing on emerging markets in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.

The distinguished panel of judges included Alisée de Tonnac, Founder of Seedstars; Anthony Corbaz, Director & Head Western Switzerland, Digital Switzerland;Cécile Frobert, Deputy Head of the Democratic Governance Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, France; June Farmer, Executive Director HCM Product Strategy at Oracle, and Nicolas Goldstein, Founder of Talenteum. They collectively awarded Mohirdev, with Inclusivity Solutions and Turing Space securing the first and second runner-up positions.

Why Mohirdev?

Mohirdev, an Uzbekistan-based innovator, captivated the judges for addressing a pressing issue in an underserved region, providing solutions for re-skilling and up-skilling, ultimately enabling access to dignified employment. Their commitment to expanding in MENA also showcased a strategic focus. Moreover, they have demonstrated a robust public-private partnership, a crucial element for success. Mohirdev is a cutting-edge platform designed to equip migrants with tech skills, ensuring they have a smoother transition into the workforce and contribute positively to the tech economy.

Seedstars, the main partner in the competition, expressed pride in collaborating with IOE for the Migration Challenge and commended the high-quality pitches: "The Fourth Migration Challenge represents a significant endeavour for us at Seedstars. It offers a firsthand look at how technology can positively transform migration, particularly when environmental considerations are more crucial than ever. It was great to see the participating startups bring solutions that could improve lives and support sustainable practices.", said Seedstars’ Co-CEO Alisée de Tonnac.

Future opportunities

As the winner, Mohirdev will receive a 5,000 Swiss Francs cash prize and 1-on-1 mentorship sessions. First and second runners-up will also benefit from 1-1 mentorship sessions with subject matter experts to help them solve pain points they are facing in their business. Beyond visibility at the Forum, all 10 finalists will join the Migration Challenge Alumni Network and gain connections within IOE's migration development network and opportunities for internal development and partnerships.
