From September 21-22 in Tokyo, Japan the Asia Employers Summit took place, hosted by the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and Keidanren, the Japanese employers' federation, with generous support from the European Union.

These leaders shared insights and best practices on topics ranging from the business and human rights landscape to the transformative power of new technologies. They delved into critical areas like upskilling and reskilling, wage imbalances, the challenges employers face in advocating for sustainable enterprises, gender equality, the impact of an ageing population and labour migration. They also discussed recruiting micro-entrepreneurs as new members.

Delegates also divided into sub-regions to examine more locally policy priorities and challenges. They shared best practices on how to promote priorities and tackle shared challenges.

Embracing digital transformation emerged as a key factor in advancing a just transition during the Summit, enabling job creation, decent work and poverty eradication. Delegates shared valuable experiences in addressing upskilling and reskilling in the age of digital transformation.

The Summit concluded with an update on the 2019 ILO ACT/EMP-IOE report on Changing Business, emphasising five major trends: market integration, technological advances, demographic shifts, sustainability drive, and skills shortages. These trends continue to be at the forefront, requiring collective and collaborative action to navigate the challenges successfully.

The Asia Employers Summit served as a platform for constructive dialogue and the exchange of ideas, highlighting the importance of partnership and innovation in building a brighter future for businesses and workers alike. Let's continue to work together to overcome challenges and drive positive change on both regional and global scales.
