The IOE’s role in the G20 process is focused on the Business 20 (B20).

G20 Argentina

The Argentinian government assumed the G20 presidency on 1 December 2017 from Germany and will hold the presidency for one year. With a people-centred vision, Argentina will place development, fairness and sustainability at the forefront of the G20 under the theme "Building consensus for fair and sustainable development".

Chairmanship of the B20 and the B20 Employment and Education Taskforce

The B20 is being chaired by former IOE President, Daniel Funes de Rioja. The IOE will, for another year, play an important role as official Network Partner of the B20 Employment and Education Taskforce. Erol Kiresepi (IOE President), Mthunzi Mdwaba (IOE Vice-President to the ILO), Peter Robinson (IOE Vice President for North America and USCIB President and CEO), Gerhard Braun (of BDA-Germany), David Iakobashvili (RSPP-Russia) and Annemarie Muntz (of Randstad, an IOE Partner) have been appointed as Co-chairs of the B20 Employment and Education Taskforce 2018. Linda Kromjong (IOE Secretary-General), Matthias Thorns (IOE Director of Stakeholder Engagement) and María Paz Anzorreguy (IOE Senior Adviser) will play key roles as members of the Taskforce and in the coordination team actively engaged in the drafting of a comprehensive set of practical, actionable and measurable recommendations to support the G20 Employment Working Group.

IOE in the B20 and G20

The IOE strongly encourages G20 Leaders to introduce structural reforms in order to create a dynamic, inclusive, and flexible labour market with the aim of unleashing the potential of the G20 as an engine for change and global policy coordination to bring more people into work, stimulate growth and improve working conditions.

This year, one key focus will continue to be the implementation of former G20 decisions and commitments at national level. Particularly in light of the 10th anniversary of the G20 in its current form, the question of the impact and effectiveness of the G20 process so far and possibilities to strengthen this will be an important issue for the IOE in the B20 and G20.
