Conozcan el resultado del importante voto llevado a cabo por el organismo AFNOR y participen en la próxima reunión del Grupo de Trabajo de Políticas de la OIE en la materia (en inglés)

You have been informed that the French Standardisation Organisation AFNOR had launched a proposal at the International Standardisation Organisation (ISO):

  • to update ISO 26000 (the ISO standard on responsible business conduct)
  • to develop implementation guidelines or standards to support the integration of social responsibility in all types of organisations
  • guidelines or standards on specific social responsibility issues

The vote on this proposal closed on 15 July. The results show that the two approval criteria have been met (i.e. 2/3 majority of voting members have approved it and more than 5 members have expressed their wish to participate in the work by nominating experts). Thus, the AFNOR proposal has been approved, despite the fact that business, trade unions, NGOs, think tanks and the ILO publicly called for the rejection of the proposal. The result is therefore extremely disappointing.

The next step is the approval of the establishment of a new committee and allocation of the Secretariat by the ISO TMB, which is the highest ISO decision making body. It is expected that this will happen at their September meeting.

To discuss the post-vote strategy and the next steps, as well as other important human rights developments, we will organise a meeting of the IOE Policy Working Group on Human Rights and responsible Business Conduct on Friday, 24 July, at 14:30 CEST. Please register with Monique Depierre (depierre(at)ioe-emp.com) until 23 July at 14:00 CEST if you want to join the digital meeting of the IOE Policy Working Group on Human Rights and responsible Business Conduct.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us in case you have any question.
