Launch of the ILO Centenary celebrations

The ILO has officially entered its Centenary year and launched an annual programme of celebrations

Dear Members,

The 22nd January 2019 marks the official launch of the Centenary Celebrations of the International Labour Organization, which is a milestone of global importance.

This year will be characterised by commemorative events and high-level debates.

These debates are an occasion for the Employers’ group to reaffirm its support to the Organization in its unique tripartite structure, and to highlight the hopes and expectations for the second century of the ILO.

The celebratory events and historical key moments have been compiled in the new ILO website https://www.ilo.org/100/en/

The events worth of note are:

  • The Commemoration of the one-hundredth anniversary of the establishment of the ILO within the UN General Assembly, on the 10th April 2019. The relevant UN Resolution invites the IOE to participate in the commemoration (paragraph 6).
  • The global ILO 24-hour event, on the 11th April 2019.
  • The 108th session of the International Labour Conference, which will debate the future of work and the future of the ILO in the “Committee of the Whole” and the “Centenary Debates Committee”, on 10-21 June 2019.

Events with a regional and/or national coverage will also take place throughout the year. We will take you informed of any relevant meeting in due time.

The intervention of Mr Mthunzi Mdwaba, the Vice-Chairperson of the Employers’ Group in the ILO, delivered today on the occasion of the launch of the Centenary Celebration of the ILO can be found in the Resources box.

Please do not hesitate to contact María Paz Anzorreguy, IOE Director of ILO Coordination, should you need further information.

Best regards,

Roberto Suárez Santos
Secretary-General
