Former IOE Secretary-General Costas Kapartis passes away

IOE, together with our member the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation, are sad to announce the loss of former Secretary-General Costas Kapartis.

Former IOE Secretary-General Costas Kapartis passed away last week. He was Secretary-General during one of the most important decades in IOE’s history from 1989-1999. He spearheaded our efforts to assist with developing private enterprise and employer associations in the countries of the former Soviet Union. His contributions are still felt today through the active participation of our members from Hungary to Russia, Kazakhstan and throughout the region.

He also steered the organisation through a major re-organisation which saw the creation of the Management Board. He also jointly led employer contributions to the 1998 ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. This landmark Declaration is considered one of the ILO’s most important achievements.

At the time of Costas’ retirement, the then incoming IOE President Ashraf Tabani paid this tribute to him, “We cannot conclude without also adding our words of thanks to Costas Kapartis for all his hard work and loyal service to the IOE.”

Our former colleague will be missed by the entire IOE community. We send our sincere condolences to his family.
