On 29 November 2018, the annual meeting between the ILO Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations (CEACR) and the Committee on the Application of Standards (CAS) took place at the ILO. On behalf of the Employers’ Group, Sonia Regenbogen (Canada) briefed the experts on the constructive work done by the CAS in 2018. She discussed a number of cases that were particularly concerning for the employers and suggested the Experts to higlight cases of progress that could be included in the CAS list of cases for discussion in june 2019. She also raised some concerns regarding the content and relevance of the Expert 2018 Report including the Experts’ continuous extensive non-binding guidance on the right to strike within ILO Convention 87. Moreover, she sought some clarification from the experts on their progress made thus far in improving their working methods according to the proposals made by the constituents. Finally, as the ILO celebrates its centenary next year, she emphasised the importance of seizing this opportunity to improve the transparency, efficiency, relevance and tripartite governance in the ILO regular standards supervision.
