Private sector highlights its potential in rebuilding post-conflict economies at the IGNITE 2017 Conference

IOE Secretary-General, Linda Kromjong was keynote speaker at the IGNITE 2017 Rebuilding Futures conference organised by SPARK in Amsterdam. This 5th edition of the IGNITE conference brought together more than 450 attendees from business, governments, civil society, refugees and labour migrants. The event focussed on improving access to higher education, developing entrepreneurship and promoting sustainable leadership amongst young people in conflict-affected regions, through sharing knowledge on how to rebuild economies and societies. The conference was opened by H .M. Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. Her keynote speech emphasised the important role business plays in rebuilding societies. The private sector allows for the creation of jobs for everyone, young and old, men and women and by bringing investment to countries affected by conflict, business contributes to a higher degree of stability and a hope for a brighter future in home countries. This in turn reduces the need for local populations to consider emigrating abroad to find work.
