Kris de Meester at the Business Dinner Brent Wilton at the Alliance 8.7 High-Level Panel
The 2018 United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) took place in New York from 16 to 18 July. This year’s Forum discussed the theme of a "Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies." The International Organisation of Employers (IOE) participated in this important event, bringing the voice of business to the main discussion but also using this opportunity to visit other related side events. This was also an occasion for the IOE to co-host a dinner for companies, business federations and government representatives on the 2030 Agenda jointly with USCIB and the ICC. Guests were welcomed by Kris de Meester, representative of the IOE member federation VBO-FEB.
On 16 July, IOE Director of Stakeholder Engagement, Matthias Thorns, and IOE Adviser Pierre Vincensini participated and presented at the High-Level conference of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) on transforming our economies and lifestyles to ensure a greener, fairer world. They also attended the second meeting of the Global Coordinating Group of the Alliance 8.7, of which the IOE is a member. Brent Wilton, from the IOE Partner Company Coca-Cola, participated at the Alliance 8.7 High-Level panel on Innovative Initiatives Achieving SDG Target 8.7, who stressed that "it is only through cooperation that some of the systemic issues, such as child labour, can be sustainably addressed."
This was a great opportunity to highlight the importance that the IOE attaches to the SDGs, a theme on which the Organisation has been working for several years now and will continue doing so. Already in 2015, the global Employers’ family committed to contribute to the implementation of the SDGs through the Bahrain Declaration. The IOE, believing in a network and multi-stakeholder approach, has also established a Policy Working Group on the 2030 Agenda to facilitate the exchange of experiences, create partnerships and build capacity.
