La Conseillère régionale de l'OIE rend visite aux Organisations d'employeurs en Asie du Sud (en anglais)

IOE's Regional Adviser for Asia-Pacific and the Arab States, Thannaletchimy Housset, traveled to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in September 2017 to visit the national Employers' Organisation (EO) in each country. The purpose of her journey was to determine the main priorities for each EO and to evaluate the relationship between the EOs and the IOE. During her trip to Pakistan, Thannaletchimy Housset was invited to witness the signing of an MoU between the Employers' Federation of Pakistan (EFP) and the training institute Aman Tech to collaborate on national skills development.  She also delivered a presentation to students at the Jinnah University for Women on "Women and the Future of Work" in which she outlined the business opportunities to be seized by tapping into the female talent pool. She emphasised that women are outnumbering men in terms of participation in higher education and they are more likely to have higher developed soft skills than their male counterparts. Such efforts would include further developing policies with the public sector that create an enabling environment for business and addresses the transition from the informal to formal economy. She delivered a lecture on the importance of international labour standards to companies during her visit to the Employers' Federation of Ceylon (Sri Lanka), reinforcing the importance of the IOE as the Secretariat to the Employers’ Group in the ILO. The Bangladesh Employers' Federation (BEF) highlighted its role as an institutional body, strongly focused on shaping national policy in social and labour affairs. During her visit to Bangladesh, Thannaletchimy Housset visited a local garment factory. She was pleased to note the vast improvements made to improve occupational safety and health (OSH) and acknowledged the efforts made by suppliers in Bangladesh to ensure compliance with national OSH legislation.
