ISO approval of a technical committee on OSH

Dear Members and Partners,

As you may recall we drew your attention to an ISO proposal submitted by the British Standards Institution (BSI) to create a technical committee on Occupational Safety and Health (TS/P 270). Click here to read the proposal.

The proposed new technical committee aimed to maintain and update the ISO standard on OSH management systems (ISO 450001, which has just been published as an International Standard). The proposal also called for additional ISO activities such as the creation of guidance for managing psychosocial risks in the workplace.

Despite the IOE opposition to this new proposal and the support from many of our members who took action towards their national standard body, the ballot was approved by ISO members and then confirmed by the ISO Technical Management Board. This second ballot closed on Sunday, 8 April 2018.

This is not the approval of a new committee but an upgrade from Project Committee (PC) to Technical Committee (TC). This means that the PC which was in charge of ISO 45001 will not be disbanded and that, as TC, can develop new projects in this field. The IOE will be deeply engaged in the work of this committee and keep members informed.

Yours sincerely,

Pierre Vincensini

Adviser
