Employers: Call for input to the employers' position on the global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration

Dear Members and Colleagues,

Employers have the opportunity to influence discussion on a global framework for regular migration to be adopted by United Nations Member States in 2018: the global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration (GCM). The global compact for migration will be the first, intergovernmentally negotiated agreement, prepared under the auspices of the United Nations, to cover all dimensions of international migration, including labour mobility, in a holistic and comprehensive manner.

We invite you to provide your comments on the Draft Paper ahead of the next GCM thematic consultations on 11-13 October 2017. This document seeks to provide input for governments for the negotiations starting in February 2018. It is based on the policy brief launched in June 2017 at the GFMD Summit in Berlin. It suggests targeted actions for governments, defined as priorities for the private sector, for inclusion in the GCM.

Moreover, in response to the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for International Migration, Louise Arbour, we have drafted a letter for your consideration on how employers would envision the GCM. The draft paper, as well as the draft letter (only available in English) are available to download from the links in the side panel. Your comments and suggestions on the content and tone of any of these documents are welcome to consolidate the key messages employers may want to bring to the GCM process.

Please send us your comments before 18 September 2017.

The last GCM thematic consultation will take place on 11-13 October in Geneva. Regional meetings are scheduled until the end of the year. Please check the agenda and let us know should you be interested in participating: http://refugeesmigrants.un.org/regional-consultations

We look forward to hearing from you and please do not hesitate to contact us should you require further assistance with this process.

Yours sincerely,

Stéphanie Winet

Head of Stakeholder Engagement
