The Business Advisory Group on Migration, together with the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) are hosting a Regional workshop for Asia on 18-19-20 May with Asia National Migration Focal Points.

The objective of the workshop includes providing tools to employers in Asia to support their outreach to governments on migration-related issues of priority to business and fostering and improving the dialogue and understanding between employers and governments on key migration topics.

The workshop is organised in two parts: Employers will share best practices and challenges on accessing and recruiting foreign skills and agree on a set of key policy messages to share with the governments. These messages will be carried over to the dialogue session for discussion between businesses and governments on May 20.

Part I: Employers-only sessions on

  1. Skills mobility frameworks that respond to labour market needs (18 May)
  2. Regulatory frameworks that promote and ensure responsible recruitment of foreign workers (19 May)
  3. Improved systems for identification, recognition and development of skills to promote skills mobility (19 May)

Programs of these sessions will be available soon.

Part II: Dialogue between employers and governments (20 May) – Consult the agenda in the "Resources" section.

Employers in Asia have agreed to a common position through a declaration published in 2020 calling for a stronger engagement of employers on migration related issues. The topics are aligned with the 2018 Global Compact for Migration (GCM) Objectives 5, 6 and 18, adopted by United Nations members States.

Ultimately, this workshop aims to provide a platform for exchange between the private sector and governments towards the implementation of the GCM and the Sustainable Development Goals.
