IOE brings the voice of business to the 2022 United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

Under the theme "Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development", the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2022 was held on 5-15 July under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

This session of the HLPF aimed at reviewing in-depth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 (quality education), SDG5 (gender equality), SDG14 (life below water), SDG15 (life on land), and SDG17 (partnerships). The Forum considered the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic across all SDGs and the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the Goals.

Together with a range of partners, IOE highlighted the important role business played in responding to the pandemic, and how it plans to contribute to the global momentum to achieve the SDGs:

• Side event "Rebuilding resilient sustainable societies: Private sector takes action on SDGs", by the IOE and USCIB-led Business and Industry Major Group to the HLPF. This side event highlights priority actions, policy requirements, and innovations needed by business and employer groups to restore livelihoods and accelerate a sustainable pandemic recovery that addresses the challenges of energy and food security and advances education and inclusion. • HLPF Global Town Hall "What Is the State of the Global Workplace? The Role of Business: Sustainable Workplaces", co-organised by IOE, SHRM and USCIB. This event focuses on the role of business in SDG5 and SDG17. A series of fireside chats feature key business leaders who discuss actionable learnings and recommended outcomes around the pandemic’s impact on talent, supply chains and inclusive growth. • Side event "Realising the multistakeholder approach: Private Sector involvement in the VNRs", co-organised by IOE and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS). This event aims to draw attention to the private sector's critical role and input in accelerating the SDGs and the opportunities for partnering with the United Nations and national governments by participating in Country Assessments, Cooperative Frameworks and Volunteer National Reviews (VNRs).
