Aim of the meeting:

The meeting aims at raising awareness of ILO's Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention (169) and encouraging its application in the context of the presentation of the Study on free, prior and informed consent (carried out by the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous People, EMRIP) to the Human Rights Council at its thirty-ninth session (to be held in September 2018).

The ILO is very concerned about the Study and the Expert Mechanism, as it leads to uncertainties with regards to the content of ILO Convention No. 169.

IOE role in the meeting:The IOE is the Secretariat of the Employer representatives in the meeting
