The Global Healthy Workplace Awards & Summit (Agenda) took place for the first time in Europe (Ex-Monastero di Sant'Agostino, University of Bergamo, Italy), after being held in the US, China, Brazil, and Singapore. These events aim at raising awareness about the importance of well-being in the workplace and sharing best practices in this field. The IOE is member of the Advisory Board of the Global Centre for Healthy Workplaces (GCHW). Bringing together leaders in global health and well-being for the advancement of health in the workplace, including WHO, the World Bank, and the OECD, the event offered an opportunity to learn from and discuss issues such as creating healthy workplaces and preventing Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), which are issues of growing importance to the OSH agenda. Kris de Meester (VBO-FEB) participated in the event. Keeping in mind that companies are a critical platform to promote health and building on the motto "Good Health equals Good Business", the GCHW has also developed a straightforward and convincing "Healthy Investments Statement".

The event concluded with an Awards session addressed to organisations implementing programmes that excel in the creation of healthy workplaces and demonstrate an employer's focus on promoting a safe and healthy work environment and the health of its employees while producing business essential outcomes. The Awards finalists presentations (SMEs, large enterprises and MNEs category) were informative in terms of success factors and innovative elements for creating healthy workplaces. The winning programmes (AB May, USA; Hospital Alemão Oswaldo Cruz, Brazil; Lendlease, Australia) illustrate the importance of integrated approaches to workplace health which includes occupational health, psychosocial risk management and wellness. It is to be noted that the three winners have highlighted the role of enterprises in communities which can lead to enhanced productivity, reduced absenteeism and improved employee morale and motivation, as well as return on investment.
