The attention of the Intergovernmental Working Group (IWG) on the UN Treaty Process on Business and Human Rights was drawn towards progress made so far in the last four years thanks to the establishment of the UN Guiding Principles (UNGP). The clear boundaries between roles of governments and companies, which are enshrined in the UNGP's "protect-respect-remedy" framework were also highlighted. Greater emphasis on implementation was called for through National Action Plans (NAPs) for addressing business and human rights to create a "global level playing field" for business.
These comments were put forward by Ms Renate Hornung-Draus, IOE Regional Vice-President for Europe during the IOE-BDA-WBCSD side event to the meeting of the Intergovernmental Working Group (IWG) on the UN Treaty Process.
