The German government assumed the G20 presidency from China on 1 December 2016, and B20 Germany was launched on 4 September 2016 with the hand-over from B20 China. The leading German business associations – BDI, BDA and DIHK – form the B20 Executive Committee, which will take all significant decisions on B20 Germany, by consensus. The IOE is both a network partner of the B20 and the co-chair of the Employment & Education Taskforce.
There are five taskforces in the German B20: Trade & Investment, Energy, Climate & Resource Efficiency, Financing Growth and Infrastructure, Digitalization and Employment and Education. There are also two cross-thematic groups on Responsible Business Conduct & Anti-Corruption and Small & Medium Enterprises. A list of B20 events is available here.
The IOE, together with the BDA, leads the B20 Employment & Education Taskforce with Deloitte as the knowledge partner. The B20 Employment & Education Taskforce will continue to discuss the issues related to improving framework conditions for more and better employment opportunities and allocating human resources efficiently. Key priority recommendations include:
The IOE strongly encourages G20 Leaders to introduce structural reforms in order to create a dynamic, inclusive, and flexible labour market with the aim of unleashing the potential of the G20 as an engine for change and global policy coordination to bring more people into work, stimulate growth and improve working conditions. A key issue in the G20 process has always been implementation and the IOE will continue to push G20 leaders to stay true to their commitments.
