Since the adoption of the SDGs by world leaders in September 2015, IOE has been instrumental in promoting the contribution of the private sector to the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, including through multi-stakeholder engagement as set out in SDG 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development. Connecting the development community through multi-stakeholder exchange and concerted action is at the very heart of the EU Policy Forum for Development (PFD).

You will recall from our previous communications that IOE is a longstanding contributor, alongside members, to the PFD meetings at both regional and global levels. The IOE Secretariat's role is to coordinate and support the contribution of business to the discussion. We advocate for a participatory approach to development cooperation to address the needs of countries whereby the private sector is consulted and involved in investments and initiatives throughout their life cycle.

From 24 - 26 September 2019, the Asia Regional Meeting of the EU PFD will come to Kathmandu, Nepal. The two-day forum aims to bring together a total of 100 representatives from civil society organisations, local authorities, and other non-state actors based in Asia. We strongly encourage our members in the region to take advantage of this opportunity to be the voice of business at the Forum as key players in the achievement not only of SDG 17, and SDG 8, which recognises the priority of sustainable economic growth and links it to employment and decent work, but of the wider range of development goals to which business is called to apply its creativity and innovation.  This will be an occasion to articulate your perspective on the support and reforms necessary at national and regional level to enable the private sector to play its full part in the SDGs.

If you are available, and engaged in this area of work in your national employers' organisation, please contact Ms Caroline Balikungeri at the IOE (balikungeri@ioe-emp.com) as soon as possible with your expression of interest. As noted above, spaces are limited in number and restricted to members of the IOE.

Additional information on the programme and logistics will be circulated in due course. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
