IOE strengthening cooperation with Indian employers on skills and technology

IOE Secretary General Roberto Suárez Santos met this week with leaders from India’s top employers’ organisations.

India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. With a total workforce of over 500 million people and an estimated 12 million active companies, the country is set to become the world’s fifth largest economy in 2019. 90% of the occupied population are in the informal sector but digital economy is expanding rapidly thanks to a strong investment on skills.

IOE’s Secretary General Roberto Suarez Santos travelled to engage with the leadership of India’s main employer organisations: the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) together with All India Organization of Employers (FICCI-AIOE), the Employers’ Federation of India (EFI) in cooperation with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), and the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE).

Mr Santos informed the different organisations that IOE stood ready to expand ties with them. FICCI Secretary General Dilip Chenoy, its Deputy, Arun Chawla and the President of AIOE Commission Rohit Relan reaffirmed their organisation’s commitment to be a full and productive IOE member.  Also, EFI Director General Vijay Padate in collaboration with CII Director General Chandrajit Banerjee also expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with IOE. SCOPE Director General Atul Sobti expressed his organisation’s interest in identifying areas of collaboration with IOE.

Topics identified with EFI, AIOE and SCOPE were the future of work, demystifying technology for small and medium enterprises, and skills development.

IOE Secretary General also met with the Labour Secretary Mr Heeralal Samariya and his team to discuss issues related to the labour reform in India.

Rajeev Dubey IOE Management Board member and CEO of Mahindra acted as host and facilitator, advocating intensively for strengthening links with IOE.
