The Global Apprenticeships Network (GAN) was established in late 2013 in response to the global youth unemployment crisis and the need for business to develop skills for the future. Supported by BIAC, the ILO, the IOE, and the OECD, the coalition’s main goal is to boost youth employability and skills development. It is an international coalition of committed companies, international organisations and employers’ federations whose motto is to “open doors for youth” within its wide network of members and partners at both global and national levels. With the ultimate goal to create “jobs for youth and skills for business”, together GAN members:

  • commit to action
  • advocate for work-readiness programmes
  • share best practices
  • facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue and partnerships

GAN Membership is at CEO level with Board Members including: The Adecco Group (Chair), Ericsson, Hilton Worldwide, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., IBM, Samsung Electronics, Telefónica and UBS. Regular Members include: Astra International, Gi Group, Nestlé, Randstad Holding and The MasterCard Foundation.

Four GAN National Networks (GNNs) have been launched in Turkey, Indonesia, Spain and Argentina. These GNNs are the in-country platforms which allow the GAN to achieve concrete results. The GNNs’ essential role is to quantify commitments and root the GAN concepts within the national context – catering to the distinct economic, cultural and institutional needs at the national and local level.

Through the GNNs, led by employers’ federations, a coalition of over 100 companies have committed, sparking the impetus for a global movement towards promoting work-readiness programmes for youth.
