Dear Members and Partner Companies,Â
Â
The Intergovernmental Working Group (IWG) on a binding treaty on business and human rights held its first session from 6 July to 10 July in Geneva. The IOE participated in this session.
Â
Please find a link to a summary of the debate and the next steps in the side panel. Further information about the IWG can be found on the IWG website (see link in the side panel).
Â
The IOE will continue its engagement in the UN Treaty Process. As a follow-up to the meeting it is important that IOE member federations get in contact with their government representatives and share the treaty paper (available via the link in the side panel), which the IOE jointly with BIAC, ICC and WBCSD has drafted.
Â
We will keep you informed about all the next developments. We would like to use the opportunity to inform you that the draft programme for the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights is now online (available from the link in the side panel). The Forum is organised by the UN Working Group on business and human rights and will take place from 16 – 18 November in Geneva. Last year nearly 2000 delegates participated in the Forum.
Â
The IOE will organise two side-events during the Forum on non-judicial grievance mechanisms as well as on the treaty process.
Â
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
Â
Yours sincerely
Matthias Thorns
IOE Senior Adviser
