I am writing to advise that, at its last session, the IOE Management Board applied its Internal Rules, as provided for under Article 6.4 of the IOE Statutes, to address the matter of filling the posts of elected board members that are unable to complete their mandate.
The vacancies arose because in June 2014 one of the two elected members for Europe, Mr Jørgen Rønnest, assumed the post of IOE Vice-President for the ILO, and one of the two elected members for Latin America, Mr Alexandre Furlan, took up the post of Regional Vice-President for Latin America. These two members were elected in 2013 for a three-year term, i.e. until 2016.
According to the rules:
“Regional consultation will be led by the Vice-President of the region concerned, who will make a recommendation to the President for a replacement to complete the outgoing member’s mandate.”
In line with said procedure, the mandates will be completed by Mr Bülent Pirler of the Turkish Confederation of Employer Associations (TISK), who joins Ms Lidija Horvatic of the Croatian Employers’ Association (HUP) as Europe’s second elected board member, and Mr Alberto Echavarría of the National Business Association of Colombia (ANDI), who joins Mr Jorge de Regil of Concamin (Mexico) as Latin America’s second elected member. The Management Board unanimously endorsed these nominations and warmly welcomed the new board members.
I would also like to take this opportunity to let you know that I have continued the co-option to the Board of Mr Blaise Matthey (Switzerland) for the duration of my mandate and I would like to thank him for his commitment to the IOE.
