Youth Employment
The critical issue of youth unemployment (which accounts for 41 per cent of the unemployed persons globally) is now gaining considerable momentum, particularly since the adoption of UN General Assembly Resolution Promoting Youth Employment in 2002. The IOE remains engaged in the issue on a number of fronts and is a key partner in the Youth Employment Network (YEN) (the ILO, World Bank and UN Initiative). Key findings of the report (which focuses heavily on the recent financial, economic and jobs crisis) include:
Importantly, the report complements data on the impact of the economic crisis on young people with information on national initiatives to support youth employment, both urgent interventions at the height of the crisis, and longer run youth employment programmes. Some national and regional information is appended to the report, which may be of relevance to members.
