ISO 26000

Recent information shows that at the national level a number of national standards bodies are exploring the creation of national management system standards to, in effect, certify companies as ISO 26000 compliant. The most recent example of this if from Austria.

This trend goes against the expressed purpose of ISO 26000 which is a guidance document and which as such has no "requirements" against which a company can be certified.

The ISO Technical Management Board established a Post Publication Organisation (PPO) to monitor the use of ISO 26000. The PPO is meeting in November and will have on its agenda the issue of the misuse of ISO 26000.

Any members with any national examples of misuse of ISO 26000 are asked to forward them to the IOE Secretariat (wilton(at)ioe-emp.org) by the 4th Novemver 2011.
